Extract from the Headmistress’s Report 1981
This year the attention of Governors, Parents and the school in general, has been taken by our latest development, which has been dynamic in its growth, and that is the new Arts building. This has been the year of the Appeal; I would like to thank yet again all of you for your support of a scheme which, for many people, has come at a difficult time. The Appeal was launched at meetings in the Autumn term; we have to thank the immediate past president of the Parents’ Association, Mr. Slaney, and his successor, Mr. Harrison, for all their help. Mr. Lund from the Governing Body has given us much of his time and interest, while the most generous help of Mrs. Harle with the secretarial work has meant that administrative costs have been kept to a minimum. The girls, too, have played their part in fund-raising, and the music hall produced by both staff and pupils was particularly successful in this respect. The foundation stone of the new building was laid by Lady Habakkuk on the 18th November and the progress that has been made since that date is clearly apparent. The building will be opened by Professor David Piper, the Director of the Ashmolean Museum, on Wednesday, 30th September.
