Steve Jones
Steve Jones became an instantly recognisable and sought after broadcaster as one of the main presenters of the popular T4 for Channel 4. Steve has been a regular on our TV screens since then hosting a number of mainstream shows on BBC One and ITV. 2016 saw Steve become the host of Channel 4’s Formula 1 coverage, a successful role which he continues today. Steve now brings us his hilarious and heart-warming commercial fiction debut, Call Time.
Call Time
Bob Bloomfield’s life changed when his little brother Tom was tragically killed in childhood. Now a ruthless corporate partner with a ‘materially rich, spiritually empty’ existence, Bob has done enough living for two.
But then the impossible happens. An old mobile phone allows Bob to connect to the past … and speak with his twelve year old self. And his calls back through time are creating real changes in the present.
Which leaves Bob with two questions: is this a chance to prevent his brother’s death? And will he like the world he’s created if he succeeds?
“Joyously unpredictable, clever, witty and warm. Gorgeous!” Ruth Jones
Holly Smale
Multi-million, bestselling author of the Geek Girl series, and winner of the Waterstone’s Book Prize, Holly Smale now makes her adult fiction debut with The Cassandra Complex. Holly has been shortlisted for several major awards including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Branford Boase Award. In January 2021, Holly was diagnosed autistic at the age of 39. Suddenly a lot of things made sense and it is this experience that in part inspired and informed The Cassandra Complex.
The Cassandra Complex
Cassandra Penelope Dankworth likes what she likes (museums, jumpsuits, her boyfriend Will) and strongly dislikes what she doesn’t (mess, change, her boss drinking out of her mug). Her life runs in a pleasing, predictable order. Until now.
She’s just been dumped. She’s just been fired. Her local café has run out of banana muffins.
Then, something truly unexpected happens: Cassie discovers she can go back and change the past. Now, Cassie should be able to find a way to fix the life she accidentally obliterated. And with time on her side, how hard can it be…?“A brilliantly clever, twisty story that dazzles with its wit whilst touching our heart.” Sarah Haywood
“Sharp, funny, quirky, insightful and so very, very relatable.” Joanne Harris
Books available for purchase on the night, in association with Chorleywood Bookshop.
